  • Open Office Hour At The Bar Continues As We Discuss The 5 Per Cent

    Posted by Jerry:

To quickly recap for those just tuning in: of Detroit’s approximately 385,000 properties, roughly 20,000 or 5% of all properties are about to be auctioned for $500 from the 19th through the 25th, and 1/2 are unlikely to sell. As of today, registration is running behind on the Bid4Assets auction site, but you can peruse what’s properties are coming up at whydontweownthis.com.

Obviously, a whole lotta questions around all this.

Among them, what’s the deal here, how can we encourage “best” outcomes, and can what happens at the auction have a positive effect on how the city handles its larger land-use issues?

Come say hello and talk about it from 6:00 - 7:30 PM at PJ’s Lager House Monday through Thursday of this week in a continuation of “Why Don’t We Own This? Open Office Hour At The Bar” (how’s that for a poetic name?).

Last week was great with a different interesting flavor every night, sometimes ballooning to 25 people in a circle, sometimes 10 co-mingling, with city staffers, enthused block club captains, property buyers, artists, and a potluck potpourri of people shaking hands, sharing stories, and cheersing.

Just like a random Detroit property, you never know what you’re gonna git, but you do know there’ll be beer and brains. A perfect(?) combination.

    Amen.
